The IAM Union commemorates this important day and works to ensure our members in nursing are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.Nurses are essential in transforming health care and health systems such that no person is left behind, without access to care or impoverished because of their need for health care. IAM District 78 represents hundreds of nurses throughout Ontario at retirement homes, long-term care facilities and in home-care. |

After IAM’s Pressure, United Backs Off Forced Furlough Plan
The IAM’s campaign and the resulting public outrage against United Airlines has caused the carrier to back away from its illegal scheme to force 15,000 full-time IAM members into part-time positions.

| IAM Healthcare Local 1295 member Makhena, works at a retirement home in Orleans and delivers care to the seniors in her charge. She began performing native hoop dances at the home when she saw that some residents were anxious. “The hoop dance is a medicinal dance. It relieves their anxiety. It’s emotional and mental medicine,” she stated. Naturopathic and indigenous medicines are important to Makhena. “Our bodies are more receptive to those medicines,” she said. IAM District 78 is extremely proud of Makhena and of all of our members that are providing care and services for their communities during this pandemic. |
